View Full Version : Win 2000 support?

As most everyone at Moon knows I do not use my gamer for any type of VOIP programs. The machine I use, happens to run Win2000 and Mohawk will not install on this machine. I get the error of the OS is too old.:( As Win2000 and XP are damn near the same core would it be too hard to support it?

Also I looked at our user base and we have many others who show as using Win2000 on our TeamSpeak and they also can not use Mohawk. I am sure we could get a better test if we could include those who are OS deficient, as I am for this.

The error that you get, is it a Mohawk error?

Can you send us a screen shot?

I would say it is a Mohawk error as its not one of the generic windows type errors.

Yup that's a Mohawk Error. I'll ask our dev team if there is any reason why it would not function on 2000.

Oh thank you so very much. this will let me do a much better test than I could ever do on the gamer.

That and this old man has a hard time crawling under the desk to change the mic over for testing then back for normal use.

Monkey,

What is your email address? I have a build to send you which SHOULD work on 2000.

Thanks Jon! Monkey is part of our beta test group :)

Many thanks for looking into this issue.

Well it now runs.
I get an error when I try to change the controls but it lets me make the changes.

Access violation at address 0543BDB8 in module 'MohawkClient.exe' Read of address 00000000.

this is a Mohawl error not a windows error. If I was on the same machine I would simply take a screenie but if needed I can do that to submit as well.

Does Mohawk function?

Monkey
09-17-2008, 05:08 PM
Yes it functions but some errors come up when trying to set things in the controls. I can hit OK and still make the changes and everything still works.

I would have to figure out how to make a video to show what all it does though as it happens several times.

I managed to make a video of the errors and all BUT if I put it on youtube you can not read any of them :( Can I send this to the email address that sent me the file?

With Windows 2000 does your Windows user have access to read/write to the MohawkClient.MOH?

Monkey
09-17-2008, 07:02 PM
Full access to everything. I am the only user and full admin access. I checked to see if it somehow was set to read only and it was not. Like I said above, I have the video with all the errors I get you can see all the error messages even with the little demo thing on the screen from the video recorder software.

I'm one of the folks that Monkey was referring to, and I just wanted to let your dev-team know how much I and other die-hard Win2K gamers appreciate their effort and their consideration.

It's SO refreshing to deal with a software company that respects those of us who prefer not to upgrade our way of doing business everytime Uncle Bill decides it's time for a new OS.

So, again... thanks.

I'll try to help out however I can with this effort :)

We're in the process of building a Windows 2000 test system here at the office. Once we have that we will be able to better look into these bugs.

But to be clear (minus the error messages) the actual program functions?

Monkey

Yes it does function and does well at it. The only time it has a problem is when closing sometimes, it wont close and you have to use the task manager to get out. The errors seem to be more of a call function but at the same time you hit ok and keep doing what you were doing.

Did you get the mail that has all the erros codes that I was getting?

AncientTiger

Yes, it functions wonderfully. Sorry, should have made that clear.

I'll try to keep a better record of the error particulars and will post 'em here (don't worry... I'm a programmer too, so no "It's broke" posts.. I'll copy/paste the exact error codes recieved :D )

On Opening the client:

---------------------------
Mohawkclient
---------------------------
Cannot find getnameinfo in Ws2_32.dll
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

then

---------------------------
Mohawk
---------------------------
Class not registered, ClassID: {96749377-3391-11D2-9EE3-00C04F797396}.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

When trying to open the Controls (button click)
---------------------------
Mohawk
---------------------------
Access violation at address 00534BD8 in module 'MohawkClient.exe'. Read of address 00000000.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Found a new glitch... when registering a user, I got this error:

---------------------------
Thread Error
---------------------------
Thread AudioIn WaitForStart: MsgWaitForSingleObject timed out
This error has been written to the log.
OK will terminate thread but
further errors probably will occur.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The thread error is actually part of another bug which we are working on solving right now. :)

Once we get the next build out Monday night we'll start working on the Windows 2000 specific issues. Plus our office system will be ready then too!

Thanks for all the info guys, keep it up.

Take your time guys. Just the fact that you're trying to accommodate us die-hard W2K guys is a wonderful thing :D

Just curious -- how is compatibility for other applications under Windows 2000.

AncientTiger

Since Win2K and Win XP are at the core the same OS (Windows NT), the biggest problems I've ran into is software that just refuses to be installed when it detects anything other than XP/Vista.

Most of the time, if the installation wizard gives me the option to install ANYWAY, the software runs just fine. And if it DOES have a glitch or two, it's normally a missing DLL that I can google and find in a few minutes time and be good to go.

Monkey

I have the same DLL thing at times. I just drop the XP DLL in and for the most part things work just fine.

Most everything that runs on XP will run on 200 for me UNLESS the software has been setup to only work with XP or above. If the software does this check as AT said sometimes it will say install anyway and works fine. Games work just as they do for XP.

Was just curious, now that 1217 was out for XP/Vista, will there also be a new build for Win2K... or has these changes been included in the 1217 build?

jbiloh
10-02-2008, 04:54 PM
1217 should have the same Windows 2000 functionality. Give it a shot.

We're working on plugging thru Windows 2000 albeit slowly.

Works the same as before. Looking forward to seeing the next release! Good work guys.

We're expanding upon our initial binds system -- which has caused a few day delay. But once complete this weekend the wait will prove worthwhile.

Thanks for testing!
